What Is a Prostho­dontist?

Dr. Hallas from Bay Lakes Center for Complex Dentistry.Dental restoration and replacement requires extreme attention to detail as well as advanced training and knowledge to guarantee results that are as attractive as they are functional.

Prosthodontics is the only specialty recognized by the American Dental Association(ADA) devoted to the meticulous restoration of your teeth. A prosthodontist completes a three- to four-year ADA-accredited residency program after graduating from dental school.

This additional education includes extensive training in diagnosing and treating:
•  Traumatic injuries to oral structures
•  Temporomandibular (TMJ) disorders of the jaw
•  Congenital or birth anomalies such as cleft palate
•  Oral cancer reconstruction

The prosthodontist is responsible for designing and overseeing your entire treatment plan to correct any functional or aesthetic imbalances in your mouth. When collaboration between different dental and medical providers is necessary, the prosthodontist takes the lead in orchestrating your care.

As a dental specialist, a prosthodontist has to stay on the cutting edge of new technology and perfect techniques that other dental professionals may have less opportunity to perform.
