Trefoil™: An Affordable, High-Quality Full-Arch Teeth Replacement
Green Bay, WI

Trefoil lower jaw application at Bay Lake Center for Coplex DentistryBelieve it or not, millions of people in the United States are missing all or most of their teeth. Luckily, there are more teeth replacement options than ever before! At Bay Lakes Center for Complex Dentistry, we specialize in a number of cutting-edge replacements, including a new Nobel Biocare full-arch appliance known as the Trefoil.

What Is the Trefoil?

Nobel Biocare is a name-brand dental supply company that specializes in high-quality dental implants and cutting-edge treatment concepts. More specifically, they are credited with the invention of the All-on-4 treatment concept, which is a full-arch restoration that requires the placement of four implants, far fewer than other appliances. Trefoil is their latest full-arch restoration designed for the lower ridge and supported by only three implants instead of four!

The trefoil concept was developed to help even more people qualify for implant treatment. An implant is a tiny titanium screw that mimics the root component of a prosthesis. A single implant is attached to a dental crown, while a series of implants can be used for a partial bridge, complete bridge, or even a denture.

Dental implants are so successful largely thanks to the process of osseointegration, during which the titanium screw fuses to your underlying jawbone. Unfortunately, osseointegration will not occur properly without adequate bone density, quantity, and quality. The Trefoil appliance helps patients with insufficient bone in the lower jaw qualify for a full-arch implant restoration, when it would otherwise be impossible.

The Dental Implant Process

Before we begin the Trefoil process, we must first determine that you are a suitable candidate for dental implants. Dr. Hallas should be able to tell you whether or not the trefoil is right for you during your initial consultation appointment. Once we decide that you are suitable for implant treatment, we can schedule your procedure.

The trefoil procedure involves a relatively minor surgery where we place your three implants underneath the gum tissue and into the lower jaw. Because there are only three screws, we utilize 3-D imaging technology to determine the precise location of each implant, maximizing the support of your jawbone. Once your implants are in place, we attach a prefabricated titanium bar that is positioned above your gums.

This titanium bar is a major support structure that makes the trefoil full-arch appliance possible. After the bar is attached to the top of your implants, we typically place a temporary restoration next. In many instances, we can place your implants and temporary during the same appointment, allowing you to leave our office with a brand new set of teeth in a single day!

Benefits of the Trefoil

•  Improved Function and Esthetics: The first and most obvious benefit is a new, beautiful smile that restores your ability to chew and speak properly.
•  Guided Surgery: The Trefoil involves advanced 3-D cone beam scans that take the guesswork out of implant placement. The fabrication of a surgical guide drastically increases the success rate of implant treatment.
•  Affordability: While implant treatment is not cheap, the trefoil requires far fewer screws, effectively cutting costs. When compared to traditional dentures, which need to be repaired or replaced at frequent intervals, the trefoil can save you a significant amount of money in the long run as well.
•  Streamlined Treatment: Often times, the trefoil can give you a set of brand new teeth in a single appointment. Other implant-supported restoration usually require multiple visits.
•  Permanently Fixed: A permanently fixed appliance like the trefoil should look, feel, and function just like your natural teeth. They allow you to eat, speak, smile, and brush with confidence and comfort.
•  Better Long-term Oral Health: Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that helps prevent bone deterioration. Other appliances, like traditional dentures, can damage your soft tissues and do nothing to preserve the bone.
