Slipping Dentures Can Lead to Denture SoresDentures are reliable oral appliances used to replace missing teeth. If you are getting dentures for the first time, it is vital to know some of the challenges you are likely to face. One of the common denture problems for new wearers is denture slippage. It is helpful to know the effects of this problem and how to fix it.

Denture Slippage

Even though dentures are designed to fit in your mouth perfectly, you are likely to experience slippages especially during the first few weeks. This is likely to happen when you smile, cough, or laugh. It could also be the case when you are eating or talking. One of the effects of slippages is the presence of sores. This happens because dentures have a solid base that puts pressure on your gums hence causing slipping. When this happens regularly, you are likely to have sores. If you don't treat the open sores, you expose them to bacteria that is likely to cause oral infections.

For instance, you should be very careful when inserting dentures in your mouth because it helps reduce the risk of slippages. Avoiding rushing when inserting dentures in your mouth because you are likely to make a mistake. Forcing dentures into position will likely result in misfits. Furthermore, you can prevent the denture slippages by drinking water. When the dentures are dry, the soft material is slippery and could easily slip out of your mouth. Sipping water will prevent that from happening. It is also better to avoid eating hard foods during the first few weeks. This is helpful because it prevents forcing dentures out of position.
