Reasons To Replace Missing Teeth

Posted on 1/14/2022 by Dr. Hallas
Reasons To Replace Missing TeethOver 40 million people in America has at least one tooth missing. If you are one of them, its important that you know that it's not just aesthetic problems that you face. Most people aren't pleased with the way their mouth looks with missing teeth, but there are health effects that people should also be aware of that relate to missing teeth.

Shifting Teeth

To keep other teeth in place, each tooth works like a placeholder. When a tooth is no longer there, the other teeth around it can shift and cause your bite to be misaligned. If you had a straight smile at the start, you may notice quickly that your teeth have become misaligned. Its essential to replace missing teeth quickly so that the other ones don't shift.

Oral Health Care

For your overall health, its vital to care for your teeth and gums. Once teeth shift and become misaligned, it can be a challenge for a person to reach certain areas to brush or floss. If plaque and bacteria are left on your teeth, you can develop periodontal disease quickly resulting in more tooth loss over time.

TMJ

If the lower and upper jaw don't meet each other when you bite, you may deal with issues associated with the temporomandibular joint located in the jaw. When teeth shift out of alignment, you may notice headaches, jaw pain, clicking noises, and be unable to open your jaw completely.

Bone Loss

The root of the tooth is secured to the jawbone and stimulates it to regenerate and grow bone. But, when the tooth root is gone, the bone can deteriorate and die. Fortunately, dental implants are directly placed in the jaw, so that there is very little when teeth are replaced quickly.

Confidence

Its common to feel uncomfortable and self-conscious when you have missing teeth. This can affect both your professional and personal life.
