Dangers of Getting a Dental Abscess

Posted on 7/12/2021 by Dr. Hallas
Dangers of Getting a Dental AbscessSometimes we are unable to accurately assess the level of danger we are in. As teenagers jump off a cliff, they often don't realize the impending danger that they're putting themselves into. Similarly, if you have a dental abscess, your body is in danger as the infection from your tooth can spread to the rest of your body. This scenario can become a life-threatening situation.

An abscessed tooth is a bacterial infection on the interior of your tooth. The abscess is a pocket of pus that forms inside your tooth. It is important to treat a dental abscess as soon as possible as this condition can spiral out of control if left untreated.

Do You Have These Symptoms?

The most common symptom of a dental abscess is severe pain. The pain in your tooth can radiate from your mouth to other parts of your face. Throbbing pain which does not go away could be a sign of a dental abscess. Additionally, if you have a dental abscess, you may have a high fever, swelling in your face, or a rapid heart rate. If you have these symptoms you will need to go to the emergency room as these are signs of a serious infection that may have originated in your tooth as a dental abscess. Remember, your dental abscess could spread to your entire body. Get help as quickly as you can if you have these symptoms.
