Sometimes denture wearers start to complain about sore gums. When this happens, it is a sure sign that their dentures no longer fit. We can readjust your old dentures so they fit better. In some instances, you may need to get new dentures when the gums and bones shrink.
When Should Dentures Be Adjusted?
One of the main goals we try to achieve, when placing dentures, is to ensure better eating or chewing. If you notice that you have trouble chewing, we will need to refit your dentures to the precise shape of your gums. Any type of denture discomfort should be addressed as well. While dentures are not expected to feel as comfortable as real teeth, any jaw soreness or similar pain should be addressed. If you feel pain near your canines when biting down, it may indicate that your bone has resorbed. Any change in the appearance of your jawline may also signal that you need to have your dentures relined or rebased.
How We Make Dentures Fit as They Should
When you are wearing dentures, the top denture should suction easily to your gums. The bottom denture should float above the gums and still stay in place in the mouth. If you have partial dentures, they should stay in line with your surrounding teeth without any noticeable movement. We can reline your dentures so you won't have a problem with pressure or soreness. Don't try to alter your denture's fit yourself, as you may end up cracking or damaging the appliance.
To readjust or reline your dentures, we may perform a soft reline or hard reline repair. We'll get a more precise fit with a hard denture reline, as we will make an impression and have the denture sent to a lab. You normally can get your denture back the next day. The soft reline is completely done at our site. Learn more about how we can readjust your dentures by phoning us today. If you need your denture adjusted, now is the time to do it.
