Can a Dental Bridge Help with Your TMJ?

Posted on 11/12/2021 by Dr. Hallas
Can a Dental Bridge Help with Your TMJ?A missing tooth doesn't cause much trouble in its early years. However, in later years, it may cause a lot of problems for your oral and overall health. Most people who lose their teeth through traumatic injuries such as broken jaws are vulnerable to TMJ later in life. TMJ is mostly caused by injury from hard impact to the jaw, often leading to losing one or more teeth.

Once a tooth goes missing, its roots go with it. The blood vessels that went to the affected tooth also go with it. This means fewer nutrients and vitamins will flow through your jawbone, causing it to start deteriorating. As it reduces the bone mass, your temporomandibular joint starts to develop problems. The good news is that dental bridges have emerged as a popular choice among other solutions to TMJ problems worldwide.

TMJ and Dental Bridges

A dental bridge covers the space while providing support for the adjacent teeth. By using two abutment teeth on either side of a crown, it bridges the space. The bridge will prevent misalignment in your jaw by covering the space created by the missing tooth. A dental bridge will then realign your teeth and jaw, bringing back balance. It will also prevent bacteria from entering your jawbone through the missing space, helping you avoid even more problems.
