No one wants to get a root canal. Most people believe it's the most painful dental procedure out there. While that's not necessarily true, it can be painful. Fortunately, it's also a routine procedure, and the equipment and technology used has made a root canal much easier and less painful than it once was. If you're afraid of a root canal, here are a few things you can do to help bypass that fear. Learn About the ProcedureOften, we fear things not because we're truly afraid of them, but because we simply don't understand them. If you're afraid of a root canal, ask yourself if you're afraid because of the procedure itself or because you don't know what to expect. In many cases, it's simply because you don't know what's going to happen. Learning about a root canal can help you overcome this fear.Talk to Us About Your FearsIf we know you're afraid of having a root canal, we can help you work through those fears. We can take the time to explain every instrument used and what we'll be doing every step of the way.If you don't talk to us about your fears, though, we have no way of knowing what you're going through. You won't be the only person who has a fear of dental work. We hear it all the time, so there's nothing to feel embarrassed about. It's much better to talk to us and ask all of your questions. It May Not Be PainfulMost people are afraid of the pain that they think comes with a root canal, but there may actually no pain at all. We'll give you an anesthetic to numb the area, and if there's any pain later, you can take over-the-counter pain medication.Want to know more about root canals, or do you need to schedule one?
