What Types of Issues Can be Fixed with Dental Bonding?

Posted on 9/20/2016 by Dr. Hallas
A man shocked, because he's chipped his teeth!Dental bonding is a common procedure. It is an easy one, requiring only a little time during a single visit. It is also a painless process, requiring no anesthesia. After your tooth is cleaned and dried, an acidic gel is applied, which creates a rough surface.

The tooth is then rinsed and dried again and the bonding material, a composite resin, is applied. It is then shaped, hardened and then polished.

Bonding also offers the aesthetic advantage of matching the color of your teeth. It can fix a myriad of issues.

Misshapen Teeth

Some people don't have teeth that are all the same length. They may not be the proper shape either. Dental bonding allows the dentist to add length to short teeth or correct misshapen teeth. It can also help to fix discolored teeth.

Gaps In Teeth

Gaps in your permanent teeth are another dental issue you don't have any control over. With dental bonding, your dentist can fill in the gaps and make your smile look natural.

Cracks or Breaks
Biting down unknowingly on a hard object can cause a tooth to crack, chip or break. A facial injury can do the same thing. Untreated, not only do you have a smile you're no longer happy to flash, but you also run the risk of infection depending on the depth of the damage. Minor damage can easily be fixed by dental bonding, restoring your smile to its former beauty.

Cavities

Dental bonding can also be used to fill in cavities. Because composite resin isn't as strong as some other materials, bonding is best used in cavities that are small and in teeth that don't see much chewing force. And, unlike amalgam fillings, the resin blends right in.

Dental bonding can be used to fix a number of issues. Contact our office to see if it is right for you.
