Got Broken Teeth?

A diagram of how a dental crown works.A chipped tooth can find itself into your mouth in a multitude of ways, ranging from pizza toppings not properly prepared to base jumping mishaps.

Getting a chipped tooth can be as easy as biting into a piece of hard candy or being at the wrong end of a hunting accident.

The First thing to do after chipping or breaking a tooth is:

•  Attempt to find any broken pieces or whole teeth - handle these as carefully as possible
•  If it is a whole tooth, try not to touch the root of the tooth, only the crown
•  Rinse the broken tooth or fragment off gently in lukewarm water
•  Get help! Contact an emergency room or dental emergency center as soon as possible

Chipped teeth are one of the most common dental injuries and luckily one of the most successfully treated. However you came to suffer a chipped tooth, there are a variety of ways a trained and certified Prosthodontist can treat your condition. The choice among the various technologies used for treating cracked or chipped teeth will depend on what you and your dentist feel is your best option.

Tooth Bonding

Tooth Bonding is great for treating chipped teeth. There are many bonding agents used to seamlessly reconstruct a broken or chipped tooth. There are various forms of bonding, depending on the location of the tooth in the mouth and the wishes of the client.

Crowns & Veneers

If the chipped or broken tooth is toward the back of your mouth, your dentist will probably recommend a dental crown. Tooth-colored crowns are implanted and carefully calibrated in order to withstand the force of the years of chewing food and clenching the jaw that are to come.

Veneers are generally used when the damaged tooth is in the front of the mouth and will be seen all the time. The veneers are bonded to the teeth, and the beaming smile will be restored!
