Who is a Prosthodontist?

Posted on 2/13/2023 by Dr. Hallas
Who is a Prosthodontist?A prosthodontist is a dentist who has specialized in aesthetic restoration and replacement of teeth. Prosthodontists go through an extra three years of training after dental school.

Although many general dentists are trained to perform these procedures, prosthodontists are highly skilled in treating more complicated dental conditions. The additional training is obtained via a hospital or a university-based program.

What are the duties of a prosthodontist?

Prosthodontists specialize in teeth restoration and repair. They replace missing and extracted teeth with artificial ones – dentures or dental implants, crowns, and bridges.

Prosthodontists are also specialists in cosmetic dentistry. They clearly understand the importance of a smile and the dynamics of a healthy mouth.

Do We Have Any Difference Between a Prosthodontist and a General Dentist?

Prosthodontists have acquired extensive, highly-focused training in tooth replacement and restoration to help produce long-term, beautiful solutions for your smile. A general dentist is qualified to deal with routine dental care and other trivial dental procedures. Dentists repair teeth and ensure that the teeth remain healthy.

Is There a Difference Between a Prosthodontist and an Orthodontist?

These are two very important areas of expertise in the dental field. An orthodontist goes through advanced training to diagnose, prevent and treat irregularities in the teeth and jaws. Prosthodontists restore and replace the missing teeth by crafting crowns, bridges, and full or partial dentures.

Which other specialists do we have in the dental field?

Other specialists in the dental field include Endodontist and Periodontist. Endodontists are experts in root canal treatment. They are specialized in treating the inner soft tissue of a tooth, the pulp. All endodontists are dentists, but less than three percent of dentists are endodontists. Periodontists help in teeth anchorage. They help in fighting gum diseases. As well as they eliminate the plaque that causes gum disease by undermining dental health.
